The Firsts matches on both Wednesday against Old Belvedere and Saturday away to Phoenix were cancelled due to the weather. The Seconds lost against Malahide in a refixed game in Malahide last Thursday and lost by 2 wickets against Leinster in St. Columbas on Sunday after batting first and scoring 165. Having had their match against Railway Union on Saturday cancelled due to the weather, the Fourths failed to chase 55 for the second time this year when they were all out for 46 against Avondale in the Park on Sunday.
Only the Fourths get a game in this week with a reduced overs game in Bird Avenue against Merrion in the Merrion Cup Semi-Final. Merrion batted first and were all out for 88 in 29 overs and Service were left to rue some dropped catches managing only 60 in reply. The Thirds match against Balbriggan and the Seconds match against Sandyford were both postponed.
Nothing to report this week, with the weather curtailing any possibility of cricket being played. The Fourths Minor Cup semi-final against Merrion has been rearranged for this coming Sunday the 17th.
Mixed fortunes for the club this week, with the Fourths winning on Sunday and the Thirds losing on Monday. On Sunday, the Fourths won by 30 runs, scoring 207 for 3 (Shabi 76*, Phil 61*, Ciaran 28). North Wicklow scored 177 for 4 in reply (Neil 2/28, Stephen 2/36). The Thirds lost by 6 wickets against North Kildare. Batting first Service scored 95/9 off their 40 overs (Dave 18, Sanjay 15, Gerry 10). North Wicklow took 28 overs to reach the total, losing 4 wickets along the way (Kiran 3/20). The Firsts match against Rush in Rush was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, as was the Thirds match on Saturday against Bagnelstown.
The 4ths beat Merrion by 9 wickets at Bird Avenue today. Merrion batted first on a damp mat and scored 57 with Gause the pick of the bowlers claiming 5, with Kiran Shenoy and Raj picking up a couple each. Shabi claimed 2 fine catches. After "Sandyford Gate" the skippers instructions were to bat sensibly. Gause and Ciaran put on an opening stand of 54 before the skipper flashed at a full toss and was bowled. Gause hit the winning runs in the 13th over to finish on 31.
